SAC CW 2023 TF3D
Okay – this was fun !
Last year – I had a visit in Iceland from George K5KG , Steve K4EU and Tom K4NMR who replaced Charlie K1XX that could not make the trip. They wanted to visit Iceland and operate. As an extra they planned to take part in the SAC CW – but as we all know it was cancelled because Russia attacked Ukraine. They had fun – made tons of contacts. George contacted me few months back and asked if Charlie and him could visit again and take part in SAC CW – he also asked if we had some local ops to operate with them. We decided to go in with the big boys and do M/M. My brother TF3SG and Oskar TF3DC joined the group – and then we have Alex UT4EK living in Iceland ! So we had a small team and decided to have 3 stations running at TF3D. This was bit of an undertaking as the station is set up for SO2R.
I had not been able to do any upgrades to the station this summer due to work and other stuff.. So just the week before the contest I started preparing. We had issues with few of the antennas but biggest issue was the two element OB2-40 was not being seen on the other end of the Coax- probably the balun/hairpin has gotten disconnected. We had a simple 10m high ground plane to play with on 40m. It delivered something – but we lacked extra gain towards SA/NA !.
Anyhow – we managed to work 24 hours – CDX could have been better (as always!) 10m was partially open on Saturday – most of the bands closed during the night – and on Sunday morning only 20/15m were open until the end of the contest ! 15m was good – giving good DX’es around the world.
Learned a lot ! For me being on the side just helping and seeing those awesome operators work their magic ! Now we just improve !
We see that our Q count is relatively high – but needed more mults to be competitive with the big guns in OH / LA / SM !! but we gave it everything – first time we do M/M from TF in SAC.
